वह ईश्वर पूर्व में उत्पन्न हुए सभी ब्रह्मवादियों, गुरुओं का भी गुरु है क्योंकि वह पुरुष विशेष काल से व्याप्त अर्थात समय से बंधा हुआ नहीं है उससे सर्वथा पार है। ऐसा नहीं है कि ईश्वर किसी काल में तो है और किसी समय नहीं है, वह सब समय उपस्थित है। ईश्वर सृष्टि से पूर्व भी है और प्रलय के बाद भी है। ईश्वर प्रत्येक काल में होने से वह सभी गुरुओं का भी गुरु कहा गया है। सृष्टि आरम्भ में सबसे पहला उपदेष्टा होने से ईश्वर को गुरुओं का भी गुरु कहा गया है। ईश्वर ने सृष्टि के आदि में चार ऋषियों के शुद्ध एवं पवित्र अंतःकरण में चारों वेदों का उपदेश दिया था इस हेतु से भी ईश्वर गुरुओं का भी गुरु कहा गया है।
वे चार ऋषि हैं-
श्वेताश्वेतर उपनिषद में भी इसी बात को कहा गया है कि- “जिस ईश्वर ने सृष्टि के आदि में ब्रह्मा को उत्पन्न किया एवं जिसने ब्रह्मा के शुद्ध एवं पवित्र अंतःकरण में वेदों का स्वर एवं अर्थसहित ज्ञान का आलोक किया मैं उस ईश्वर की मैं मुमुक्षु शरण में आता हूँ।”
पूर्व में भी जितने ब्रह्मवादी अर्थात ब्रह्म की महिमा कहने वाले हुए हैं उनका मार्गदर्शक भी ईश्वर ही है। ईश्वर ने ही उन्हें सब प्रकार से सन्मार्ग की प्रेरणा दी है।
व्यवहार की दृष्टि से मैं कहना चाहूंगा कि ईश्वर सब गुरुओं का भी गुरु है तथापि लोक में गुरु भी उस परमेश्वर का ही मूर्त रूप एवं प्रतिनिधि हैं। यह परम सत्य है कि ईश्वर ही परम गुरु है लेकिन उस ईश्वर तक पहुंचाने वाले गुरु भी सत्य हैं।
इसी प्रसंग पर कबीर जी का एक दोहा अत्यंत प्रसिद्ध है-
That Ishvar is the master of all earlier sages because he is not bound by time and is completely beyond it. It is not that God is sometimes present and sometimes not, He is present at all times. Ishwar was there before the creation of universe and will remain after the holocaust. He is called the master of all masters for being omnipresent. At the beginning of the universe Ishvar had given the knowledge of all four vedas to the four sages with pure and clear conscience. This is another reason why He is called the master of all masters.
Those four sages are:
According to Shwetashwetara upnishada “Desirous of salvation I come to the refuge of that Ishvar who generated Brahma at the beginning of the universe and who highlighted voice of vedas and its meaningful knowledge in pure and clear conscience of Brahma.”
God is the guide to all those earlier sages who sang praises of Brahma’s glory. God only inspired and led them on good path.
I would like to say that practically Ishvar is the one who has been the preceptor of all previous masters. Therefore, the teacher is an embodiment and representative of Ishvar in this world. The absolute truth is that Ishvar is the absolute master. But the guru who leads to Him is also truth.
There is a very popular couplet by Kabir in this context:
“Between the guru and Ishvar I would greet the teacher first because I have seen God because of my master/teacher.”
सूत्र: पूर्वेषाम् अपि गुरुः कालेनानवच्छेदात्
सबसे बड़ा, सर्वोच्च है ईश्वर
गुरुओं का भी गुरु है ईश्वर
समय सीमा के पार है ईश्वर
अविनाशी एक वही है नश्वर
सबसे पहले ज्ञान जहाँ से आया
मानव मात्र ने विज्ञान जहां से पाया
वह आदि स्रोत कोई और नहीं है
एक ईश्वर के कोई ठौर नहीं है
वह आदि स्रोत ही ईश्वर है
वह ईश्वर ही परमेश्वर है
